It’s almost a year old, but a recently put together video showcases a past project much better than previous ones. The BitBox was a school project for the IMD program at Carleton University. Put together from scratch by 5 guys in 3 months while attending full-time school, we were all surprised with the results. This project led to many more like it in the program and although the table we crafted was meant to be temporary, the software of other groups also found it’s home on the BitBox. It has yet to happen but there are plans to have a permanent touch surface on display in the Azrieli Pavilion building in Carletons campus.
People on the project were myself – Joshua Mark, Chris Atallah, Chris Burt, and Kevin Paquette. If you’d like to learn more or build a touch table yourself visit the project “learning center” at BitBox.Archonic.com. The touch input to Flash is driven by open source software called CCV (Community Core Vision) developed by the good people at the NUI Group. If you want to make one yourself, NUI Group is an invaluable resource. Be sure to let the NUI forums know of your multi-touch creations!
